Course Description:

Led by noted jazz musician, author and educator Daniel Glass, Musical Personalities picks up where Learning History Through Music leaves off, providing an insightful and in-depth look at some of the most important musical voices of the past 100+ years. Each week (2.5 hours of total class time), the class will focus on the career and influence of a particular artist - stretching from Louis Armstrong through Madonna. The full roster covers pioneering figures in the most important musical styles and time periods of the 20th Century.  Each week, we'll take a deep dive into the lives and incredibly broad careers of each of these artists, exploring their creative process, their successes, their tragedies, and how their music impacted countless generations and left a legacy that is still relevant today.

Each lecture incorporates video footage, photographs and graphics, as well as lively group discussions. The entire course is designed to fully engage students, and help them understand their world in a much broader context.
